It can be really tough trying to shop for a good mattress for a gooseneck trailer. This mattress is a Folding Foam Mattress that I found on Amazon. I’ve had it for about four years, and it’s the type of product that works so good, I just don’t even think about it. I recently had somebody ask about it though, so I decided to write up a full review and make a video about it.

Five Reasons Why This is The Best Mattress for a Gooseneck Horse Trailer

  1. Super Comfortable.
  2. Isn’t Too Thick (plenty of headroom in gooseneck)
  3. Affordable
  4. Washable Cover
  5. Great Spare Mattress for Company

  1. This Mattress is Super Comfortable

First and foremost, this is the most comfortable mattress! It’s on par with my nice “real” mattress at home. I need a mattress that’s not too firm and not too soft and this fits the bill. For me personally, this is truly a Goldilock’s mattress.

I am not one of these campers that can just slouch into a hammock hung up in the horse compartment of the trailer or toss a bedroll on the ground under the stars. I need a little bit of luxury when I’m traveling and horse camping.

2. This Mattress Isn’t Too Thick

When you’re shopping for mattresses for your gooseneck horse trailer, remember you need to have some headroom in there! It may be tempting to find a super thick pillow top style mattress, but every inch counts. If you have a really thick mattress, you’re not going to be able to sit up comfortably in the morning or when you get up in the middle of the night to go take a wiz or check on the horses.

Nobody wants to bump their head in the middle of the night, so take mattress thickness into account when you’re shopping. If you’re like me, you might also like to read a book or watch a movie on your tablet up there. I also like a thick comforter and plush pillows, so the less space my mattress takes up, the more room I have for that stuff in the gooseneck.

3. This Gooseneck Camping Mattress is Affordable

Affordability was also a huge factor when choosing this mattress for my gooseneck horse trailer. When I first started shopping, I was looking at RV mattresses, and they were priced so outrageously. I don’t know who is buying full retail RV mattresses, but they’re a lot richer than me!

There are several of these types of camping mattresses available on Amazon for pretty reasonable entry-level prices. It doesn’t hurt to shop around too, but overall, they all seem to be pretty affordably priced for those of us on budgets (or with horses who have recently had vet bills)!

4. This Camper Mattress has a Washable Cover

Another thing I love about this foldable mattress is that it’s got a washable cover. I have had to take the cover off a few times to wash it, and that’s an added perk. Of course, I always have sheets on it, but it’s good to know that it’s covered and if you need to, you can wash the cover.

That being said, stuffing the sections back in after washing and drying it is another story. It can be done, but not without a few swear words, so you’ve been warned!

5. Spare Mattress for company

Finally, another great thing about this mattress is that you can bring it in your house and use it for company. Personally, I hate air mattresses, and have even taken this mattress with me so I wouldn’t have to sleep on an air mattress during a few moves. It’s SO much nicer, and your guests will thank you! If space is at a premium, you can also fold it up and stuff it somewhere or just keep it folded up like a little couch.

When it comes to choosing a mattress for your gooseneck horse trailer, I highly recommend this Folding Foam Mattress. It gets the job done, and I have been absolutely thrilled with the comfort and value I’ve gotten out of this thing over the past four-ish years.

Until next time, Happy Trails!
