When it comes to the Cavallo ELB vs Cavallo Simple boot, there are a couple of similarities and differences. Check out my latests video to see these two boots up close and personal!
The Cavallo ELB and the Cavallo Simple Boot appear to be designed on the same hoof boot chassis. There are a few key differences though. They have the same aggressive tread and the same style of break-over. In my experience, the sizing and fit is exactly the same from boot-to-boot. When I decided to get a pair of ELBs this was really important to me, because I had already been successful using the Cavallo Simple Boot, so I wanted to make sure that I got the right boot for my horse.
Not All Hoof Boots Are Created Equal
If you’ve been in the booting world for a while, you know that not all boots are created equal, and what works for one horse will fly off another horse’s hoof at a canter or gallop. Once you get a boot that works for you, it’s a good idea to stick with it. The old adage “If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it” applies here! Even though I knew the Cavallo Simple Boot would work for my senior Morgan gelding, I wanted to branch out and try something a little different. I had a horse camping trip coming up and I wanted another pair of boots, so my horse would have all four hooves protected.
The Cavallo Simple Boot
I have reviewed both of these boots, and I like both of them. The Cavallo Simple Boot is leather all the way around. It uses velcro to open and close and is super user-friendly. It has very aggressive tread and a good break over. Even though my old horse has had really tough barefoot hooves his whole life, I like to give him a little extra support on hard ground. It might not necessarily be for protecting his hooves. I feel like he gets added shock absorption in hoof boots, which can help his old joints. Also, I feel like the breakover helps his ease of gait and traveling. You can read my full review of the Cavallo Simple Hoof Boot here.
The Cavallo ELB Hoof Boot
The Cavallo ELB (Entry Level Boot) has a lot of the same features as the Simple, but it has a tough canvas or nylon-type shell instead of leather. This is where the savings come in. Thankfully, I have not found durability to be a problem though. So far, these boots are holding up great. They have the same tread and breakover as the Simple hoof boot, and the same velcro style closure. They do however only have one velcro strap on the outside, (versus the two straps that are on the Simple boot). I don’t think this makes a difference in boot retention. I have not found it to be a problem. The strap is removable and replaceable if it happens to get worn out. Read my full review of the Cavallo ELB here!
Cavallo ELB VS Cavallo Simple Hoof Boot
The main difference in these boots for most of us will be the price point. The Cavallo ELBs are more modestly priced! As hoof boots go, I really feel like they’re a GREAT value. I’ve put quite a few rides on mine, and they’re still holding up very well. If the top velcro strap wears out, it’s replaceable, so that’s nice too! The Cavallo ELB vs Cavallo Simple is an easy choice if you want almost everything the Simple has to offer in a more affordable package.
